FROM OCCASIONAL CARE TO RELIABLE HEALTHCARE

A mobile clinic visits the village of Chigonere on a regular basis, providing essential care for children and families.

Whilst this has been a valuable first step in improving healthcare provision, we needed to go further in order to meet the ongoing health needs of our community. We have now completed housing for a clinician, removing one of the biggest barriers to delivering consistent healthcare in a rural setting. Safe, on-site accommodation means we can recruit and retain a qualified health professional, extend clinic availability, and provide regular support for common conditions that often disrupt school attendance.

Early treatment prevents minor issues from becoming serious health problems. Children miss fewer days of school. Families save time and money by avoiding long journeys for care. And with a trusted clinician on hand, parents and caregivers can access practical guidance on nutrition, hygiene, and child wellbeing – small, everyday interventions that make a powerful difference over time.

As with all Kasupe projects, we have taken a thoughtful, sustainable approach. The house was built with modest design, local labour, and eco-friendly materials where possible. It is connected to our water and power systems to ensure safe, reliable working conditions, and planned with long-term maintenance in mind.

This milestone also lays the foundation for the future. With stable clinical services now in place, we are one step closer to our long-term goal: a permanent health centre serving the school and surrounding villages.

If you’ve seen our earlier appeals, this update shows the impact of that support. A simple home for a clinician has transformed occasional outreach into dependable, ongoing care – extending benefits far beyond the school gate.
