CLEAN WATER, CLOSER TO HOME
CLEAN WATER, CLOSER TO HOME
Clean water changes what is possible in a school day.
In Chigonere we have drilled three boreholes that serve the primary school and the wider community. Two are fitted with tanks and solar pumps. That means water on tap for drinking, cooking and handwashing, not a long walk that steals time from lessons. Interruptions fall. Hygiene improves. Staff can plan a day that does not hinge on a water run.
Water access supports dignity as well as health. Facilities on site help girls manage the school day and stay in class. Teachers keep the momentum because routines are simpler. A working tap may not make headlines, but it is one of the most important pieces of infrastructure a rural school can have.
This work is community-led. Siting, training and maintenance are planned with local caretakers, so issues are reported early and uptime stays high. Solar pumping lowers running costs and fits our wider push for renewable energy at the school, where a solar system already powers lighting and the computer suite. Good infrastructure supports good learning.
On social you may see a quick update when a pump is serviced. Here is the wider picture. Clean water protects health, lifts attendance and gives structure to the day. It also reduces the burden on families who would otherwise spend hours collecting water. That time is now free for work, care or study.
