BREAKFAST FIRST

BREAKFAST FIRST

A hot, reliable meal at school sounds like a small detail. In practice, it changes the whole timetable.

Every morning at Kasupe’s nursery and primary school, pupils start the day with a nutritious meal so they can learn with energy and focus. Teachers see the difference in quiet ways. Lessons run on time. Afternoons hold attention. Children who might have skipped class arrive because they know there will be food. Our feeding programme now reaches pupils from nursery through Standard 8, so no child has to learn while hungry.

The kitchen is powered by community effort. Local women volunteer to cook, which keeps costs down and ownership high. This is not a handout. It is a partnership that strengthens the school day and the local economy. We also grow staple crops on Kasupe land to support the menu and teach agriculture. Pupils learn practical skills, see food grown on site, and understand how nutrition links to health.

Over time the impact compounds. Regular meals help attendance. Better attendance supports literacy and numeracy. Healthy pupils participate in sport and clubs. Parents have confidence that school is a safe place where children are cared for and learning. These are the foundations that move a community forward. They are not flashy. They are effective.

If you have seen our short social posts about breakfast at school, this is the story behind those snapshots. It is about local leadership, reliable routines, and the kind of investment that pays back every single lesson.
