BEES, TREES & STEADY INCOMES

BEES, TREES & STEADY INCOMES

Sustainable livelihoods help families ride out a bad harvest or a surprise expense.

Our beekeeping project began in 2017 and has grown to 23 hives with 15 colonised. Local caretakers manage the apiary, harvest honey for sale, and use the project to encourage tree planting. Beekeeping supports biodiversity, improves pollination for crops, and reduces bushfires, which protects fields and homes. It is a small, smart intervention with multiple benefits.

Bees are part of a wider picture that includes goat breeding. Since launch, 40 families have received starter herds totalling 120 goats. Goats provide milk and manure for crops and can be bred for income over time. Both projects are run with training and follow up so households have practical support, not just equipment. Income stays in the community and skills are shared between neighbours.

We pair these livelihoods with environmental care. Our block-making machine replaces fired bricks with eco blocks, which helps reduce deforestation. Solar at the school powers evening study and the computer suite, cutting reliance on diesel and keeping running costs sensible. Education and livelihoods work best together when land is protected and energy is reliable.

On social you will see snapshots from honey harvests or training days. This is the detail behind those images. Households gain practical skills, small but steady income, and confidence to plan ahead. Children benefit twice. There is stability at home and better resourcing at school.
